Members and visitors in the gallery please stand and please remain standing for the pledge of allegiance. [SPEAKER CHANGES] Let us pray. Our Gracious heavenly father we pray to you this night as our God, creator and sustainer of life as we are gathered here tonight in this place of power we thank you for each person who has been elected to serve. We ask that your guidance and wisdom be granted to us in great measure. Protect us from pride and ego as we serve the people of North Carolina. Make us always aware as we craft legislation and pass laws of their impact on the lives of the citizens in our state. Be with our families as many of us are away from home during the week. Protect them and all things and give them peace in our absence. We ask a special blessing on the men and women who are willing to place their lives in harm’s way to defend the freedoms we hold so dear. Place a hedge of protection around each of them and keep them in your care. Bless especially their families as they too serve through their sacrifice. Grant them comfort and relieve their anxieties. This I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen. [SPEAKER CHANGES] I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. Ladies and gentlemen, one other matter. Last week, our Sergeant-at-Arms, Clyde Cook, celebrated a special day. Some say it's 69 years, or some say it's 70 years, but it's a heck of a lot of years and he's done a heck of a lot of service to this chamber over the past few years. I appreciate his friendship and his hard work, and the hard work of all Sergeants-at-Arms, but Clyde, happy birthday. The House will be at ease. We will probably call the chamber back to order in 10 or 12 minutes. The House at ease until that time.
